Optex wins innovation award
Axis integrates with Simonsvoss Smartintego
The Optex RLS 2020S recently
won an award at Benchmark
magazines Innovation Awards
2017 in the site protection, hard-
ware category.
Optex
have offered laser detec-
tion in the form of its Redscan
products for some years. Previ-
ously many laser detectors were
costly and bulky, making them
suitable only for high risk indus-
trial applications. The RLS-2020S
laser detector, however, makes the
technology more accessible for
mainstream applications, delivers
a small and discreet cost-effective
option and also provides an
enhanced level of performance in
terms of catch performance and
reliability.
The RLS-2020S can be used
for both outdoor and indoor ap-
plications, giving it a good degree
of flexibility with regard to system
design. It delivers a 20 x 20 metre
detection range and allows a
number of set-up configurations
to provide highly accurate sensing
which can be adjusted to suit a
variety of site needs, including
many that traditional sensors
would struggle with.
Because laser-based sensors
can accurately detect objects and
map them using X and Y coordi-
nates, people or objects detected
passing through the protected
area can trigger linked PTZ-ena-
bled cameras which can not only
pinpoint the intruders but can
also track them in real-time across
detection zones.
Laser sensors are very accurate,
and when deployed in internal
spaces, objects as small as 2cm
can be detected by the RLS-
2020S. Additionally, thrown ob-
jects can also be sensed, making
it ideal for a wider range of high
security applications.
The sensor features an
enhanced microprocessor that
provides powerful detection
capabilities. Designed to integrate
with a wide range of security or
safety systems, the fully customis-
able detection area has a high de-
gree of flexibility and can be used
to create virtual walls or panes of
detection. It can also be deployed
to protect perimeters, flat roofs,
skylights, etc.
The sensor is PoE compliant,
and can send alarms via tradition-
al relay outputs or by using its
IP-based Redwall event code that
is integrated with all of the major
VMS platforms.
The RLS-2020S has a number
of environmental resistance
features to minimise false alarms
which might be caused by hostile
weather conditions. In external
applications a mounting height of
four metres or more is recom-
mended; this falls to two metres
when used indoors.
The sensor can be config-
ured for vertical and horizontal
detection modes, with four ad-
justable detection areas when the
detector is used with an IP-based
connection. Three outputs can
be assigned, with selectable anti-
rotation, anti-masking, soiling,
trouble, tamper or DQ (environ-
mental disqualification circuit)
outputs.
Axis Communications
has
partnered with Simonsvoss
Technologies GmbH
to launch a
fully integrated, IP-based digital
locking and access control system.
The integration represents an ad-
vanced, cost-effective wireless lock
and access control solution that is
ideal for replacing physical keys in
buildings.
Smartintego battery-powered
digital locks in the form of either
cylinders, padlocks or door han-
dles connect wirelessly via their
Gatewaynode to the Axis A1001
door controller and Axis Entry
Manager software. The solution
represents a complete, scalable,
fully integrated and future-
proofed access control system
without limitation.
Each Simonsvoss Gatewayn-
ode has a 16-wireless digital lock
capacity and each A1001 manages
one Gatewaynode. This means
that each Axis A1001 door con-
troller can manage up to sixteen
Simonsvoss wireless locks and one
hard-wired door reader.
Axis and Simonsvoss solutions
can be stand-alone (no server) or
fully integrated solutions using
an Axis software partner for en-
terprise installations and together
they create a quick and easy way
to integrate wireless locks and
access control.
Online integration between
the Axis A1001 door controller
and Smartintego wireless lock
components via Axis Entry Man-
ager is seamless as all products are
built on open, IP-based architec-
ture. IT administrators can setup
and manage the entire integration
via a single Axis Entry Manager
interface. The integrated solution
allows for management of wired
and wireless doors, with real-time
monitored access and detailed
audit trails. Smartintego locks are
compatible with European and
Scandinavian door profiles.
Wireless lock technology has
been enjoying strong growth
globally in recent years as it
begins to replace tra-
ditional physical keys.
This is not only because
physical keys provide
very low security levels,
but wireless keys are
cost-effective, too.
Wireless locks also en-
able multiple function-
alities, previously only
available through wired
doors, for a much lower
cost
"A door with wireless locks
typically reduces life cycle costs
by 60% when compared to a
wired door. This is thanks to sim-
ple, cable-free installation as well
as the high costs of key re-suiting
when a physical key is lost," says
John Allen, Business Develop-
ment Manager, Access Control
in Northern Europe for Axis
Communications. "Compared to
physical keys, Axis' integration
with Smartintego offers superior
security and convenience."
"The integration of our Smart-
intego wireless locks will enable
a scalable access control solution
that meets today's needs," states
Larissa Kaiser, Head of System
Integration at Simonsvoss Tech-
nologies GmbH.
Smartintego wireless locks
are embedded with integrated
RFID-readers, so there's no need
for expensive or time-consuming
cabling during installation. And
just as importantly, the Axis
A1001 eliminates the need for
power cables to wired doors
and the door controller as it is a
Power over Ethernet system.
