Ifsec 1921 June, London
Challenging year
With 578 exhibitors and 27 658
visitors from 116 countries in
2017 Ifsec confirmed it´s inter-
national status. This year will be
tougher. The organiser UBM has
to face competition from Security
Essen in Germany, which will be
held in October. It means that
they will miss out some impor-
tant exhibitors that have chosen
the German event. Another
war zone is about international
visitors between theses European
heavyweight security exhibi-
tions. Time is a precious asset in
today's slimmed organisations and
the content of a security show
has become increasingly more
important. Visitors need strong
incitement to go oversees for an
event.
New keynote arena
UBM have responded with a
security seminar and conference
programme, drastically re-vamped
for 2018 with the launch of a
brand new, keynote arena taking
place in the centre of the event.
It will host everything from long
term global security strategy from
senior government officials, to
`what not to do' case studies from
private sector end-users.
World Tavcom Training
The Installer World Tavcom
Training theatre makes a return
to Ifsec 2018, giving security
installers, integrators and techni-
cians a behind the scenes look at
security's technology trends and
what the latest security prod-
ucts actually take to install and
maintain. With free education on
fast developing areas such as cyber
convergence, smart IoT enabled
solutions, fully integrated build-
ing management systems and
Li-Fi, the organiser believe this
feature will contribute to another
successful year for Ifsec.
Cityforum
Cityforum and London First will
also co-host security summits and
masterclasses for Ifsec 2018. The
two half-day security summits will
add further authoritative impetus
to Europe's largest annual security
trade show.
Solutions oriented
Ifsec or any other security exhibi-
tion nowadays is getting increas-
ingly more oriented towards
showing solutions and how to
deliver technology based services
than to deliver commodity prod-
ucts to distributors as it use to be
in the old days, although it still
exists.
Challenging year
To organise a yearly security event
on the same venue year after year
is tough. Especially as technol-
ogy systems becomes increasingly
more integrated and security sys-
tems suppliers need to be visible
at different types of exhibitions to
meet their buyers. A year like this,
when the bi-annually organised
German show Security Essen
is held, will of course make the
competition even harder.
No wonder that the numbers
of exhibitors seem to be less
2018 than last year. With 360
companies and organisations
listed as exhibitors on the Ifsec
website (2 april) it will be hard
to reach up to last year's figure of
578 exhibitors, even if it is more
than two month left before the
show opens.
Ifsec in London may still be a security show of world
class, but it is not the one and only international
event in europe as it used to be. However, uBM con-
tinue to strive on to make a security event that makes
a whole lot of difference.
At the excel exhibition Ground in London, on the
19th to the 21st of June, we will see if they once
again can prove their relevance for exhibitors and
visitors.
