CPSE: China puts focus on deep learning The first day of China Public Security (CPSE) in Shenzhen – the biggest security show in the world – attracted so many people that the organiser had to close the entrance to the 110,000 square metres huge event. “Deep learning is the biggest trend and this year is the beginning of the era. It will take another one or two years until it is used in wider applications”, says Niko Xie, Sales Director for Tiandy. The 16th edition of CPSE took place in the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from 29 October – 1 November. According to the organiser, some 75,000 people visited the show during only the first day and the entrance had to be closed down during the afternoon for security reasons. There were more than 6,000 booths and 1,100 exhibitors from 53 countries in the 11 halls. Video analytics everywhere “The Chinese security industry is very dynamic and interesting at the moment. The show is so crowded; there is no other like it. There are crowds of people coming here from the IT industry to see what the security industry is up to”, said Lennart Alexandrie, publisher of Detektor and CEO of AR Media International. Michael Yang is CEO of the show organiser and stresses that CPSE has gradually become an industry forecast for the whole security world, especially when it comes to artificial intelligence, deep learning and big data technologies: “Video analytics has been an important technology at the past CPSE shows, but this year, it is much bigger. Video analytics combined with artificial intelligence improves the security systems”, he stated and continued: “The Chinese physical security market has been growing by at least 20 per cent every year during the last ten years. In the next five to ten years, we are expecting 10–15 per cent growth.” More IT companies Other than the crowds of visitors, the giant Hall 1 in Shenzhen had a great number of companies that were displaying primarily video surveillance products.
