detektor international award The Detektor International Award 2016 presented in Copenhagen Overall winners from three continents By Rachel Ward Owens Representing three continents, iLOQ from Finland, SpotterRF from the USA and Sony from Japan, received the first prize when the Detektor International Awards were presented at the Planetarium in Copenhagen on the 16th of November. Awards were also presented to a further nine companies during the prize ceremony. A unique glass sculpture, designed by the world famous artist Bertil Vallien, was received by the overall winner in each product category. To celebrate the winning products in this prestigious awards event security industry professionals joined together at a lavish banquet at the Planetarium next to the Scandic Hotel Copenhagen where the biennial security exhibition Sectech was held on 16th to the 17th of November. “This year’s award winners join the distinguished portfolio of products and companies that have won this prize since its inception in the year 2000,” stated Lennart Alexandrie, head of the panel of judges, publisher of Detektor International and CEO at AR Media International, as he presented the awards. The prestige associated with this award is derived from the fact that there is no formal entry process. Instead, each year, the Detektor International Awards panel of jurors made up of an experienced international team of industry veterans connected to the editorial board of Detektor International magazine, scrutinise the security market to discover the few unique and deserving products that demonstrate the most innovation, versatility and user friendliness. Further debate and discussion produces the four finalists in each of three categories – Access Control, Alarm & Detection and CCTV. From that point a ballot then determines the overall winner of the Best Product Award in each category. The second place winner receives the Highly Commended Product award and the runners up each receive a certificate for Innovative Achievement. To reflect the originality of the products and the prize, unique glass sculptures specially designed by Bertil Vallien, a world famous Swedish artist, are presented to the overall winners at the celebratory dinner. In many ways, this year presented a very different challenge as not only were there so many new innovations and world firsts, but there was also innovation in the new market opportunities that many of them offered. In some cases there was a solid outright winner due to the nature of the product and in other cases there was hardly anything to distinguish between the winner and runner up positions. A really interesting point is that some of these winning innovations are now opening up new and untapped markets for the security industry, so it will be really very exciting to watch that develop and see how it grows in the future,” commented Lennart Alexandrie.
