security events Electronic perimeter security under the spotlight in Vegas ISC West was held from the 5th to the 7th of April. It was a great manifestation of how technology can make a difference to help companies and other organisations to fight crimes and other unwanted events through technology that either prevents those crimes or alerts operators before the crime or the fire even starts. By Lennart Alexandrie Report from ISC West Attendees packed the hall when ISC West Expo opened with the Grand Opening ceremony. new VMS software and additional features for existing VMS platforms were also launched during the show. Biomerics on the rise In the access control field there were several exhibitors showing their solutions with bluetooth and NFC technology. Biometrics was also a major element, especially solutions for fingerprinting and not least face recognition. Cyber security Another key issue highlighted at the show was cyber security, a concern the security industry has recently woken up to in the light of the ongoing Internet of Things process which is being embraced by security technology providers from all over the world. But how to ensure that the security product does not become a component that is used by hackers for network attacks? Cyber security was also the theme of the conference on day 2. Protection against terrorist attacks The threat of terrorist attacks was of course also something that was discussed at the show, not least on the very last day of the show because of the terrible events in central Stockholm – news that was also somewhat overshadowed by the USA’s airstrike on Syria. Gave a trend insight Overall the exhibition was well attended and the standard of the exhibitors was equally good, with a mix of small, medium-sized and large companies. And it certainly gave an insight into what we can expect from the remainder of 2017 – both in terms of trends and products. Proactivity is for sure a buzzword, not least as a consequence of the increasing use of video analytics, which was also a key focus at the show. Radar technology was a hot topic Perimeter protection solutions, based on eletronics, have become increasingly interesting for the security market. This trend was obvious at this year’s ISC West in Las Vegas. Thermal cameras were on display on many stands. More surprisingly was that several exhibitors promoted radar surveillance techniques and that Axis was one of them. Bandwidth effective video surveillance In the video surveillance field there were many exhibitors placing emphasis on solutions for lower bandwidth use and effective storage of images.
